Since its inception in 1952, the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association (IFMA) has championed the needs of foodservice manufacturers across the country. Over the past 70 plus years, legends and innovators of the foodservice industry have built this organization into what it is today.

However, the pandemic changed the entire landscape of what we knew and how all aspects of the industry worked together. That pivotal moment in our history pushed our industry to tear down silos and foster collaboration like never before. It became clear that focusing solely on one segment wasn't enough. Today, we’ve transformed this association into a robust ecosystem that supports the entire food-away-from-home industry – manufacturers, operators, supply chain partners, and service providers.

The fact is, we are no longer just IFMA; we are the unified voice of the food-away-from-home industry.

IFMA The Food Away from Home Association defines the "food-away-from-home" (FAFH) industry concurrent with the USDA’s Economic Research Service definition, as food purchased and consumed outside of the home. This category covers a broad range of establishments, including restaurants, fast food outlets, cafes, bars, schools, hospitals, and other institutions. Additionally, it includes ready-to-eat foods from grocery and convenience stores, such as deli or prepared items. In 2023, consumer spending on FAFH reached $1.5 trillion, accounting for 58.5% of total U.S. food expenditures—a historic high that highlights Americans' increasing preference for dining out due to lifestyle changes and convenience factors.

By bringing together diverse perspectives, we drive innovation, tackle challenges, and spark meaningful change. We understand that progress is a collective endeavor, achievable only through united efforts. As we integrate the full spectrum of the food-away-from-home ecosystem our members will lead the charge in developing solutions and best practices that address our industry's most pressing issues. Together, we are stronger.

This transformative journey not only brings a fresh perspective but also a bold new identity - a name that honors our past while setting sights on an inclusive future - and a vibrant brand that embodies the ecosystem we’ve built and the industry we serve.
